5 Stars So Far So Good
I’ve used it only twice but results have been satisfactory. Screen is a little small but that is convenient for placement in the auto. I’ve used Garmins as well and the Tom Tom measures up well and I personally like it better.

3 Stars a little too difficult to use
Overall, this unit was reasonable value for money. However, at $85 it was very cheap! The plusses are: Very loud speaker, a truly excellent quick-release mount, good reception, quick startup and cheap price – all of which are significantly better than the Garmin Nuvi 200 I also own(ed) (until it was stolen). The MapShare updates seem a great idea, but I am not how or if they have been of any benefit to me as yet.

The minuses are significant though: The first one is the biggest – the screen is not very bright. In fact, the unit is all but useless in the Texas sun, even when turned up to 100% brightness. When compared with Garmin, the entry of addresses to navigate to is fiddly and imperfect – entering an address takes a long time and the software name search is poor. The POI database is also poor – it hasn’t heard of our local Albertson’s for example, which has been there for many years. The Garmin had no such problems. In rural areas, the map is lacking, with seemingly almost every road being labelled simply “Unnamed Road”. This makes the device useless for navigating in rural areas unless you have pre-selected coordinates using google and entered them into the TomTom first. The last criticism may also be called a quirk once you get used to it – the TomTom announces turns WAY in advance of the turning and also just at the turning. For me, these announcements are either far too early so that they’re ambiguous (don’t forget that you can’t see/read the screen), or so late that if you’re not in the correct lane (e.g. 6 lane freeway etc), you can’t possibly make the turn safely. This took some getting used to, and I missed many exits when this unit was new.

In short, if you’re looking for a GPS for occasional use in cities and have never had one before, then this will fit the bill. However, for anything other than that, I’d keep looking.

4 Stars TomTom ONE
You do not want to go anywhere without your tomtom. Keeps one from getting lost. Easy and convenient to use.

2 Stars VERY Disappointed
In the city this product worked well; it showed me routes I didn’t know existed.

HOWEVER anything over 30 minutes is a total waste. Testing it on trips I already knew, my way was much shorter than what it was telling me. On a trip I didn’t know, my GPS gave me a trip route that was 2 hours 25 minutes. I plugged the same starting/ending location into TomTom’s own Route Planner and it gave me directions that took 1 hour 40 minutes. I would rather print directions and have to read them along the way and save myself 45 minutes of driving time!!

I tried to train the GPS by leaving it on while I went that way, but it did no good. When I wanted to return it spit out the 2 hr, 25 min route again. There’s also no way to download the route from TomTom’s own Route Planner into the GPS either.

Also the Mapquest feature only works for sending an address only, not a route. So you can’t update it that way either.

For anyone that wants to use this for 30+ minute trips, it is a waste of money.

4 Stars great purchase!!
the tomtom one 125 is a very good gps. works good for my needs. nothing fancy but simple to use and does the job good!!

5 Stars Excellent GPS mount!
I own three car type GPS’s and the one I use the most is my Tom Tom. Well, as many of you know the Tom Tom does NOT come with a decent mount. The mount with the Tom Tom literally is a piece of junk that doesn’t stay “connected” to your dash or windshield. So, I searched for a replacement mount and thought I would try this one. It is perfect! It has a suction cup type base with a latch that literally locks it to the windshield or your dash mount. I have had mine mounted with GPS attached for weeks and it has not come off yet. It has two separate adjustments for positioning and it extends about 8 inches or so which puts the GPS closer to you for viewing. I cannot say enough about this GPS mount! You won’t be disappointed with your purchase.

5 Stars A must have!
Dear Tom-Tom Owners: You don’t have to use their terrible mount anymore. No more driving down the road and getting startled when the GPS falls off the windshield and almost causing an accident. This Mini Windshield Mount from Arkon does the job and does it well. For $10, it is a steal. Buy this and you’ll be happy you did.

5 Stars Swivel Mount
Pretty sure that TomTom should be packing this mount instead of the garbage one they manufacture. Stays on windshield beautifully and has excellent adjustments.

1 Star Don’t waste your money…
Same crap as the original mount. Works for about 2 weeks, the constantly falls off the windshield. It doesn’t seem like it should be that difficult to come up with a decent mount, and I was optimistic based on the other review but this one has the same problems.

Yuck.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars very good product.
i think this product is pretty good. and it arived on time and in perfect condition. you’ll never go wrong ordering form this company.

1 Star Wont work on a Tomtom GO510, software v5 or higher.
When I bought this product it worked reasonably well. I didn’t have much time to evaluate the quality before I decided to upgrade the Tomtom sofrware to version 5. At THAT point the cable became useless as the TomTom REFUSED to play iPod music out Line-Out, even if configured to do so. Instead it would play the music out the internal speaker which I’m sure noone will agree is acceptable.

Further suggesting this is a software issue, I would configure the instructions to go through line-out. Without the ipod connected, instructions did indeed come through line-out. As soon as I plugged in the iPod to the cable to the TomTom, both instructions and iPod music would play through the internal speaker.

TomTom’s answer to this? “Use a FM transmitter mount”. Quite unacceptable, of course. A software update disabled a feature that was advertised.

Now, dont get me wrong: I love my TomTom. I’d buy the GO510 again. But deceptive lack of this feature, and TomTom’s response to it, is sadly disappointing. Other TomTom models may not have the same problem, but the 510 is pretty much a loss as far as iPod support goes.

Anyway, you’d be better off getting a Peripheral Electronics adaptor for the iPod: wires straight into your stereo, and the quality is excellent.

2 Stars Nothing Great
My car stereo could connect to ipod directly using its ipod cable which looks to be a better option in case you want better sound quality. Routing voice through tom tom go 720 and then input to car stereo using auxiliary input audio cable deteriorate the sound quality.

3 Stars Works as intended…but
The line works fine. BUT, it adds another wire or two to your driving space. And, I don’t have an aux jack in my jeep, so I rely on tomtom’s FM transmitter which gives static on every “free” channel. It sounds terrible and I’ve tried every suggested station over and over. If you have a aux jack, this will work great, but it would probably be easier to not include the tomtom in your music playing at all and save a wire. So, the wire works fine, but its a waste for me because I don’t use the ipod while driving due to the static.

1 Star Not worth the money
The audio quality is horrible. Pops and clicks constantly. I have a 720, and the user interface leaves you going through too many gyrations to make this something you want to do every time you turn on your car. I find the direct lineout connection to my iPod much more usable, because you don’t have to startup the iPod again when you turn the car on, and you get the benefit of charging the iPod, that you don’t get with the TomTom in the middle.

There simply isn’t enough benefit to justify putting your TomTom between your car and your radio.
