The Sony nav-u portable satellite navigation system is more than basic digital maps; it is the system that gets you where you need to go quickly and efficiently with intuitive features that help you along your journey. The latest Sony navigation system brings Photo Viewer to an already packed and helpful unit.

User Ratings and Reviews

2 Stars cant find streets
unit will not find some streets by street names it decides that I need to know the county road number. It also will just not find some roads that have been around for over 20 years. Sony tells me that if I buy their $50 map update it “might” fix the problem. I wasted enough money buying the unit. It does no good to have a gps that is lost half the time. I’m going back to Magellan.

4 Stars Not Bad At All, I Like It Better Than Magellan
This is my fifth GPS. Three of my previous ones (a TomTom One, a TomTom One XL and a Magellan Maestro) were stolen and the third was a Magellan Maestro that I thought was dead but repaired. Nonetheless, I bought this one because I didn’t want to spend another $200 on yet another GPS.

My favorite of my previous GPS’ were the TomToms because of their user friendliness and their routing intelligence. The Magellans were just plain stupid and their user interfaces were klunky.

This Sony has a very nice user interface but doesn’t quite reach TomTom level but it is good. Address entry and marking locations on this GPS is pretty good. I wish there was a GPS that would just put the current state as a default before you type but I haven’t found one yet that does that. The order of entering the address is not what I’m used to. I think this unit does number, street, city, state. I like the reverse (state, city, street, number). But the entry feels less klunky than the Magellan.

At first, I was disappointed at how garbagey the graphics looks but I quickly got over it when I noticed that the response time this unit beats any other GPS unit I’ve had. The route recalculation speed on it is phenomenal as well. Also, the simplified graphics seem easier to follow. The voice navigation is much less annoying than others I’ve used as well.

All in all, it’s a pretty good device considering it’s sub-150. I’m going to keep using it for another week and if I still like it, my Magellan is going on eBay!

Update: I felt compelled to add this since it is pretty important to me. The unit is great but the PC software for this unit STINKS! In the TomTom, you can edit an address book with real addresses but with this software you have to enter actual coordinates. What geek knows actual coordinates of addresses off the top of his/her head? This type of nerditry is what makes Apple number 1 in consumer devices. They really got lazy on the software on which would otherwise have been a 5 star unit. The Magellan software wasn’t any better so I guess that gives me some comfort?

4 Stars Not bad for the price
I just purchased this gps system for about 79.00 at SEARS. I had some running around to do today and I just pluged in all destinations and the little device was really accurate. I am a first time gps buyer so I can’t say what I am suppose to get and what I am not suppose to get.

You can clearly hear turn by turn directions.

Im satisfied for now

**Cons*** None yet

3 Stars Good while it lasted
I enjoyed this GPS while it lasted. After 3 months of not-so-heavy use, it no longer picked up the satellites. I returned it to Sony and since they no longer have any left in stock (getting out of the GPS business?), they refunded my entire amount. Also, the battery would not hold a charge after several uses which I didn’t care about too much since I had it mounted on the windshield and plugged in.

Overall, I liked the interface and it was very easy to learn how to use. The routing algorithm was a bit weird where it would take me off a major interstate too early, causing a longer trip. I did update the unit to the latest firmware and played with some settings but it didn’t help. Some addresses where hard to find as I had to type in alternate forms of the street address. However, as long as my defective unit isn’t a sign of common problems, I would recommend it as a cheap entry level GPS.

2 Stars Unfortunately it broke
The GPS was working well for a couple of weeks and I was happy enough. Then when I returned from a trip to VA, it stopped working. Now the battery will not charge and the touch screen does not work. So it is dead in the water. I contacted Tech Support and they told me to return it for repair, so I am hoping to return it to Amazon for refund.

Too bad !!!

2 Stars Poor design makes this carrying case a bad buy
While this carrying case appears to be well constructed, its side panels are too tall for a 760. Had someone actually pushed a Nuvi into the original design, they would have either reduced the height of the side panels or cut slots in them to allow for the on/off slide switch. You have to be very careful when inserting the GPS into the case that the side panel doesn’t catch the on/off switch and turn the GPS on. If I had it to do over, I’d buy a zippered camera case from Wal-Mart.

1 Star Doesn’t fit Nuvi 500/550
Contrary to what it indicates in the listing, this case does NOT fit a nuvi 500/550. The 500/550 are too thick to fit into this case.

5 Stars great
Fit is perfect. you need this to travel so the GPS is safe ,Great product

5 Stars Handy little carrying case
I bought this for my husband, along with a Garmin Nuvi and a friction dashboard mount. He loves everything, and finds this little leather case so handy to slip the Garmin in and pop in his briefcase. I bought this as a package along with the Garmin and the mount…good purchase. I highly recommend this case.

1 Star carrying case
The carrying case is not worth the money. If the gps was bought for a car you’ll probably never use it.

5 Stars Garmin case
We found the case to be convenient. You just have to remember to put the Garmin in the case “face down” so you keep your fingers off the top switch when time to take it out.

1 Star Pretty, but your GPS will fall out of this case
I own two Garmin Nuvi’s a 670 and 765. This particular case came as standard equipment with the 670. The first one allowed that 670 to drop out of the case if the open end was ever pointed anywhere near down. Gravity pulled that GPS out of there many times. I lost the original equpiment one, and replaced it with a newer version of this case. The GPS fit was a bit more snug, but the GPS could still slip out.

If you always carry your GPS with the open end of the case between parallel and vertical to the ground, this is a gorgeous useful case. If you are like most people, and sometimes let things go random directions, well your GPS will land on the floor.

In addition, the little open pouch you see on the front of this unit, absolutely nothing fits inside there. I think you might get a piece of paper to fit in there, but certainly no SD cards (unless you want this hideous bulge on the outside of the case). That is certainly a major waste of fine leather.

One positive thing about this case, the leather is nice.

Look for the Garmin carrying case with the flap. That one will never ever let your GPS fall out.

5 Stars GARMIN nuvi 255 case
This case is a perfect fit for the Garmin nuvi 255. There is no need for a strap to hold the unit in the case, as it is a nice snug fit. Perhaps a “belt loop” would have been nice, but if you are looking for a case to protect your GPS when you put it in a purse or glove compartment this one will do the job.

2 Stars Overpriced, but what choice do you have?
I’m giving this item 2-stars mainly based upon price. At the time of my purchase, this item is over $12.00. It’s a small case that is made in China (what isn’t these days) which probably cost around $1.00 to produce. I which other companies would come out with alternative cases. The only one I find is from Case Logic and is over 10-inches long, so it will not fit in many glove compartments, though you can put the power cord inside it. I purchased this case simply because I didn’t see another option.

I find it amusing that on the back of the package is written “Durable case protects your GPS and keeps all accessories together. KEEPS ALL ACCESSORIES TOGETHER??? I guess someone in China wrote that also and it got mixed-up in translation. ;-)

4 Stars Fits the need – snug fit – watch the power switch!
What can I say – it is a case. My Nuvi fits snugly inside and looks fine. Not sure it affords much protection in terms of cushion, but it will save the screen from other objects in the pocket or my wife’s purse.

Only annoyance: you really need to watch how you put the Nuvi in or you will inadvertently switch it on. The switch side needs to be by the opening.

5 Stars nuvi replacement cable
Great product. I lost the cable that came with my nuvi 750. This one is the perfect replacement. I would buy again.

5 Stars Great Item
I needed this Garmin 010-10747-03 12 volt Adapter Cable to replace one that stopped working. I have an older street pilot Garmin C530. I would recommend this replacement to anyone. The price was very reasonable and it arrived in one day.

5 Stars No substitute for this adapter
We lost our original cable and tried a department store replacement that plugs directly into the mini-usb port. It worked fine for a while but after a time began to fit less securely. The result was that the Garmin would blink on and off while we were trying to use it. I think that this would always be a problem with that type of connector – they are just not made for in-car use.

This original connector snaps into the window mounting bracket securely and so should never have the problem that the after-market chargers do.

4 Stars Works on c550
This charger works good; it fits snug though so make sure you pull it out gently, that’s how I broke the first one

1 Star Wrong item sent…but satisfied with outcome
I had to open the package to see the connector which was NOT what I ordered. I contacted the vendor who said because I opened the package I couldn’t return it. I replied that they had my money and I had a connector I couldn’t use. They reconsidered; I returned item and got refund. Shouldn’t have to go through this if item isn’t the correct product.

1 Star Cheap solution to holding an expensive GPS
Garmin really dropped the ball with this GPS mount. A 50 cent part to hold a $350 GPS. I’ve broken at least 4 of these now. Each one has had the tab break off. It’s useless after this – certainly not worth the $10 people want to charge you for it. Disappointed that this is the only solution out there.

1 Star Cheap mount
I’ve broken the locking tab now on two mounting brackets (one from the original set and a replacement bracket). The plastic tab is too fragile to be used as intended. Unfortunately, until either Garmin redesigns the bracket or I stop using my Garmin 705, this is what I’m forced to used.

1 Star this sucks, my garmin edge 305 fall of mi mtb in the middle of the woods,,,,good by to US$350,,,,

1 Star Handle bar mount doesn’t handle much stress – don’t waste your $
I bought this replacement mount in early April. Less than 2 months later, the clip on the mouht that holds the GPS to it broke, just like the original.

They may make a decent GPS, but this doesn’t say much for Garmin’s accessories. A real rip-off.

2 Stars Garmin Handle Bar Mount
I only bought this item, because the original one doesn’t resist the vibration during the rides. If you ride on an irregular floor (even for a road bike, after hundred miles (less de 1.000 miles)the base brokes. So you have to fix it using several “no-originals ways” waiting the new HBM arrives.
