Lowrance iFinder Go2 GPS Red

The iFINDER GO2 is the most compact, full-featured, highly detailed 16-channel compact GPS+WAAS handheld – with 64MB of built-in memory packed full of mapping detail – for such a low price! Don’t wait to give it a GO! No other consumer GPS mapping system on the market offers so much information and so many features in one package.

5 Stars Best bang for the buck.
This unit seemed to have the best standard lake shoreline maps compared to Garmin and Magellan units I’ve tried. It is great on batteries and meets nearly all our needs. I’d love to be able to upload waypoints, but none of the inexpensive handhelds allow that. For us older folk, the screen could be a lot bigger, but I guess that’s what glasses are for. For our marine construction business, it is perfect. Accuracy of all the units is about the same, and operation is unique to the manufacturer you are looking at. Once you learn the screens, you are good to go.

3 Stars Nice price, but can use some improvements
I just needed a GPS that could use UTM coordinates ..the Go2 and a competitor both were able to and the price was the same. The only real difference is that the Go2 had maps with cities, streets, exit signs, lakes included (hard coded into the system and no capability to add or change or update) and the other GPS unit did not.

The Good: Use is easy. Works pretty good when going for a walk. Kept showing the direction in which I was walking and accurate. Can set a lot of waypoints and has a decent amount of memory. Great price.

The Bad: While Go2 can access the satellites from inside my home, it can’t through the thin sheet of metal that is the roof of my car. With street maps, highway exits, and other automobile-like features I was disappointed that it didn’t work inside the car at all. Hold the Go2 out the window and we were back in business (can imagine a few tickets having to use it this way). The other negative thing I noticed is that it locked up on me a couple times. Both times while moving the cursor. The power button didn’t even work at this point and had to remove a battery to reset the unit.

Overall, I like the price and the features, but I’m not sure about it’s usability, especially in the car.

4 Stars good GPS for the money
This is my second Lowrance GPS. The iFINDER Go2 is a good gps for the money. It picked up the sattelites quickly including WAAS. Excellent battery life. Easy to use but the screen could be bigger. I would buy another GPS from Lowrance.

2 Stars gps
I bought this for geo-caching. I actually decided to go Lowrance because I have another that I use for the car and liked that one. I hate this iFinder GPS. It is so hard to use and the directions are completely confusing.

I did look into Tom Tom and theirs can used for driving directions as well as for entering the latitudes and longitudes…

4 Stars useful and economical
Not bad for the price. This unit works as advertised and is a very useful tool. The main drawback for me is the size of the display but that would be the same for any hand held model. It would also be nice if the 12 volt power cord was included instead of having to be purchased separately.

    3 Stars topo
For the money i think the progrsm should hsve more detail in the map detail such as water depths etc. Garmin topo map is a much finer program with finer and has more detail and the program can do a lot more so i my openion garmin has a better program.

1 Star Card Reader has issues
I purchased version 7 after buying a Lowrance 540c. I’ve had nothing but problems with the supplied card reader. I sent it to Lowrance for repair and after a couple of weeks they sent me 2 new card readers at no charge. 1 of the 2 new readers didn’t work at all and the second one worked for a couple of months and now it’s dead. I asked around and found out that this has been a problem all the way back when they released ver. 6.3 . I like the 540c but would have purchased another brand GPS if I knew how poor Lowrance software was going to be with there reader.

4 Stars Map Create 7 was relatively easy to use
Map Create 7 is easier to use than previous models because everything is on one CD. There was some confusion getting the map border that I chose to the SD card. I think it was user error. You need to save map before you transfer it to the chip. The map detail is not as detailed as my Navionics Hot Maps Premium chip used in a newer gps/depthfinder, but the lowrance LCX15 would not except that chip and called for the one made by Map Create.

3 Stars Could be a better product, but…
Software is not that great. Had to install an upgrade just to get it to work w/o crashing/hanging up (on Win XP). Even then, it cannot do large maps at one time. thus you have to make several smaller ones which just takes more time. Will occasionallly lock up anyway. Also, appears to require a special card reader to limit # of MMC/SD cards used. Pretty lame attempt to limit people copying maps for others.

The website is not great either for updates, etc. My device has a newer version than available upgrade on the website !

    4 Stars Interesting
I just received this GPS mapping software. I played around with it for a little while and found it to be interesting. I haven’t tried map creation yet but I’m sure it will be a great tool for my Lowrance iFinder Expedition c.

The lake detail of the Great Lakes specifically Lake Erie seems very good. The contour lines seem accurate. The port locations also seemed accurate.

The local roads both urban and rural seemed pretty good as well. I was able to locate an obscure rural road that I fish near pretty quickly and it’s map location seemed accurate.

I also searched for a hiking trail that I use occassionaly and it too showed up on the map. It was marked as a road, however, and not a trail, so I’ll need to take my GPS and see where exactly the trail starts. There are a lot of back roads in the area so we’ll see.

All in all it seems like a good investment with good mappping detail and capabilities.
