5 Stars Garmin Vehicle Power Cable
I ordered this Power Cable but did not realize that the Garmin came with it’s own cord so I did not need it. I returned it and the company instantly credited me. The cord came with 5 days this is a very good company to do business with. Very honest.

This unit works well enough and allows you to use power from your car rather than rely on AA batteries in the GPS. But, the end of the plug with the tip can and does unscrew itself unexpectedly. The next time you go to use the GPS, the power adapter does not work because part of it is missing. So far, this seems to happen to my wife when she is out of town alone. Eventually she has found the missing pieces in the car, but the day is coming when the missing pieces will be in the rental car she turned in at the airport an hour before. It needs a different style of threads or some adhesive to keep it from unscrewing so easily.

Update: I wanted to do something to keep the nut from unthreading itself. Then I noticed the plastic nut was breaking up so that the threaded portion was separating from the rest of the nut. I finished breaking off the threaded portion. I soldered a short piece of copper wire to one end of the fuse and bent it into a hook. I hooked the wire over the spring. I turned the threaded portion of the nut into its place to act as a collar. The fuse end now makes direct contact with the cigarette lighter. Garmin needs to improve the design of this power converter. I had already had to use electrical tape to hold the two halves together.

4 Stars Garmin GPS
Good product. First used a Garmin on a rental car in Costa Rica where there are no street names or address numbers in many areas – worked like a charm! Bought one for the US when we got home and so far, so good. You do still need to know a little about your route, for instance if you want to mavoid steep grades in a motorhome, the Garmin won’t tell you where they are.
